Northeast a short story The Givers Chronicles Book 1 eBook East Oakley
There are many themes in play in East Oakley’s Northeast: a short story. One of those themes is finding one’s path amidst a world of pain, confusion, the self interested and not knowing who to trust. What I took from reading Northeast is that sometimes you must get lost a little in order to truly find your way, and that is what I believe prospective readers will also discover and enjoy.Northeast is told largely through the eyes if Jaxon, a young teenager who recently elected to put his troubled home life behind him but in doing so ultimately meets an unusual and mysterious red-eyed girl name Moyra with a past so bizarre that I refuse to spoil it in this brief review.
Oakley’s style of storytelling is interesting and effective. While some authors use a more panoramic view of the world that shows you everything—and arguably, too much for a short story—before placing the action and characters within it, I see her style as being more closely analogous to a telescope projecting straight ahead, which gives the reader hope that the story is definitely headed in a direction worth the trip, gradually focusing on details as they become relevant and curious topics for the heroes. Often a character’s state of mind is revealed or implied through subtle actions and tells which is a nice touch.
This short story has elements of fantasy, science fiction and urban fantasy brewing in it but I feel the most comfortable calling it speculative fiction to cover all my bases. I can’t be certain if Northeast is intended to be the beginning of a serial but it would certainly make a good one as I am curious what becomes of the main characters beyond the conclusion of the story, even the persistent bounty hunter Sandor Bane.

Northeast a short story The Givers Chronicles Book 1 eBook East Oakley Reviews
I was unsure if I wanted to spend even 99 cents for this but was surprised to find that the story is good and I wanted more as it ended. Hope more installments are on the way.
I love these stories. I'm always left wanting more. I can't wait to see what comes next. They always leave me on the edge of my seat. A great, quick read for sure.
